Impact of Collaborative Project-Based Learning on the Self-Efficacy of Urban Minority Students in Engineering

Fri, April 4, 6:15 to 7:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 105B

Abstract

This presentation will share an interdisciplinary research project that studies the impact of collaborative project-based learning (CPBL) on the development of self-efficacy of students from various urban ethnic groups in electrical engineering. Grounded in both social cognitive and situated theories of learning, the study provides an in-depth analysis of how individual learners’ characteristics, the social aspects of learning, and the pedagogical components in PBL interact to affect student learning in an urban academic setting. The research findings allow us to better understand how to design an effective PBL learning experience to increase the success of underrepresented minorities in engineering.
