In Roundtable Session: Informing Policy Through Innovative Approaches
In rural areas, high school students may have little access to rigorous courses, including college-level courses. To increase their access to such courses, 29 high schools and five colleges in northeast Tennessee formed a consortium in 2010 to share courses through distance learning and to expand their existing dual-enrollment offerings. This paper presents results of a social network analysis of distance-learning and dual-enrollment courses over three school years. The distance-learning network, which was created in 2010/11, was unstable. The dual-enrollment network, which had a longer history, became stronger and denser over time.
