Thu, April 3, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

The development of a vocational identity is a key part and outcome of VETs. The study adopts a multidimensional and subject-oriented perspective to develop a coherent model, accounting for major influencing factors and impact of vocational identity development. The model was tested via structural equation modelling on an empirical basis of N = 504 German vocational learners studying either within the dual system (half-time in a workplace environment) or in a school-based educational programme. The results of the study elaborate vocational and organisational identity as important mediators for the development of vocational engagement and underline the importance of a free career choice as well as a strong role of integration at the workplace for the development of an excellent workforce.
