Session Type: Symposium
This symposium highlights issues and challenges identified by mathematics educators as they study the impact of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM, Common Core State Standards Initiative, 2010) on the preparation of preservice mathematics teachers. Presenters will summarize findings from three recent national surveys focused on the CCSSM, involving different levels of respondents, as well as the work of a consortium of universities to identify priority problems related to CCSSM as a basis for collaborative improvement. This symposium aims to increase our understanding of current responses to the CCSSM by different stakeholders, and will generate knowledge that can facilitate further discussion regarding what is needed to help pre-service teachers prepare to teach the CCSSM.
