The Video Mosaic Collaborative: An Online Professional Development Resource for Mathematics Education and the Learning Sciences

Sat, April 5, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 113C

Session Type: Symposium

Abstract

This symposium will showcase developments and research from the Video Mosaic Collaborative (VMC), an NSF-funded project that created an online environment with two major components: The VMC Repository housing an extensive, searchable, annotated collection of video documenting children’s mathematical reasoning and development; and the VMCAnalytics tool supporting creative uses of the collection for professional development and research. The VMC technologies continue to evolve through collaboration between the learning and information scientists and are easy to use, flexible, and reflect ideas of teachers, teacher educators, and researchers. We will demonstrate the VMC resources, provide cases of use in teacher professional development, describe empirical research demonstrating effective uses, and make the VMC visible and available to a broader research community.
