This paper reports on our co-facilitation of a teacher research group with 12 secondary school teachers. We identified the techniques for building a research community among the teachers and for guiding them through the research process. Creating a community where teachers learn together and from each other was the backbone of the process. Yet community does not develop automatically; we, the facilitators, had to be intentional about building a research community. We identified the steps for helping teachers develop a feasible and meaningful research study. We also described how our identity shifted from outsiders to insiders.
