We are a group of three new faculty members who work in different pre-service institutions. We are all recent graduates of the same faculty of education (2012). We embarked on this self-study to explore our beliefs, practices, challenges, and sources of satisfaction as research supervisors. The results of this study indicate that teacher educators’ research supervision may be strongly influenced by their own experiences as student researchers. Furthermore, new teacher educators who supervise pre-service research may be on a parallel path of identity development with their students. While the pre-service students were developing their identities as teachers through research, their new faculty were developing their identities from graduate students to teacher educator researchers through supervision of their research.
