Preparing Teachers for High-Need Schools: Perspectives From the Field

Fri, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Marriott, Floor: Fifth Level, Los Angeles/Miami

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to take a critical look at the experiences of beginning teachers who have completed a five year program focused on preparing teachers for high need districts. Twelve graduates at various stages in their teaching careers were interviewed. Through their stories we learn about the connections and disconnections between their preparation and the reality of their positions. Insights from the alumni offer valuable information about where we may see gaps in teacher preparation. Data from this study will be presented as an ethno-drama. Our hope is to represent the data and have the audience participate in making meaning as they listen, view, and experience the text in a new way.
