Type of Mathematical Proof in Classroom Discourse

Fri, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, Armitage

Abstract

The study to be presented deals with different types of mathematical proof which were implemented while working on one specific, purely mathematical proving and reasoning problem in 32 classrooms of the 8th/9th school year. At the centre of interest is the question which types of proof are realized and how the discourse proceeds. The findings indicate that there is a big variety in proving the same task in relation to the type of proof and its realisation in the discourse.
