The Case for "Pedagogical Cases": Bridging the Theory/Research–Practice Gap for Youth Physical Activity Settings

Thu, April 16, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

‘Pedagogical Cases’ is an innovation that has been designed to bridge persisting ‘knowing-doing gaps’ (Ball, 2012) between research and practice in youth physical activity educational settings. The aim of the innovation is twofold: to acknowledge the essential interdisciplinary nature of practice to produce knowledge that better meets the complex needs of practitioners; and to offer a mechanism for communication between researchers and practitioners to support CPD and provide a pathway for practitioners to influence the research agenda. A set of prototype cases has been produced and new versions of the model are already in development. This paper will discuss the theory, practice and potential of Pedagogical Cases.
