Transformative Approaches to Teacher Education: Becoming a Holistic Educator in an "Unholistic" Setting

Fri, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Swissotel, Floor: Event Centre Second Level, St. Gallen 3

Abstract

This study explores what it means to implement a transformative approach to teacher education consistent with a holistic philosophy, particularly when working with educators teaching in an “unholistic” professional setting. The exploration is through a case study of the tenth cohort of the MA program in Holistic and Integrative Education, and explores the students’ perceptions of the process of transformation through a discussion including the (1) assignments and pedagogical approaches that focused on these processes; (2) typical stages that students went through in these processes; (3) typical internal and external obstacles and the role of dissonance; (4) effects of the processes on their teaching; and (5) the uniqueness of each student’s process and outcome.
