One of the requirements of the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) for candidates in university principal preparation programs is the demonstration of knowledge, skills, and dispositions for effective school leadership. While indicators for the required knowledge and skills are generally agreed upon, criteria for demonstration of dispositions remain indeterminate and imprecise. The current evaluative instrument in use by a university in the South was designed to measure the dispositions of pre-service teachers, not pre-service principals. Therefore, the researchers designed a new instrument to evaluate the dispositions of pre-service principals. The present paper tells the story of that research and introduces the instrument and the results of the pilot of pre-service principals during their internship.
