Exploring Preservice Teachers' Intention–Behavior Relationship in Using Web 2.0 Tools: A Mixed-Methods Study

Fri, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

This two-phase mixed-methods study explored pre-service teachers’ intentions to use Web 2.0 tools in their future classrooms and then their actual integration during student teaching experience. Both qualitative and quantitative data were collected after the technology course and at
the end of student teaching. Results indicated a significant positive relationship between preservice teachers' intentions and subsequent behaviors. Findings revealed preservice teachers’ intentions and behavior were driven by ease of use and perceived usefulness of Web 2.0 tools. Additional findings revealed that the perceived usefulness of Web 2.0 tools was driven by perceived values for improving student learning and 21st century skills. This study has implications for teacher educators who are preparing pre-service teachers to use Web 2.0 tools in their classrooms.
