Career Trajectories of Leaders in Educational Researcher Through Wars, Diverse Socioeconomic and Cultural Contexts, Chance Events, and Mentors

Fri, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Sheraton, Floor: Second Level, Michigan A

Abstract

In her presentation Dr. Kadriye will describe how wars, socio-economic and cultural contexts have shaped careers of twelve leaders in education research and the extent to which these experiences found their ways in the research topics they focused on. The biographies presented in Leaders in Educational Research: Intellectual Self Portraits by Fellows of the International Academy of Education are rich resources for analyzing how life experiences influence career tracks, curiosity, passion and commitment. In my presentation, I will explore which experiences led these leaders in the direction of education research, what contributed to their success levels and the roles cultural and socioeconomic contexts and wars played in these careers paths.
