Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
The aim of this symposium is to have a panel of deans/directors with very strong track records of research themselves address the issue of the role of university leaders in advancing scientific research in education worldwide. Key questions to be examined by each presenter include how they (a) support research advancement, (b) invest in research mentoring/development, and (c) promote and reinforce strong programs of highly productive scholarship in their institutions. Each panelist will also address (d) what forms of scholarly productivity count as valuable knowledge that is both encouraged and supported by their universities and (e) the extent to which international, comparative, or global-scale research is encouraged. Speakers will address the opportunities, constraints, and pathways to advancing education research in a world in which the support for non-defense R&D is highly competitive and scarce.
