Session Type: Symposium
We are often asked to recommend examples of critical policy analysis, and, over the years, we have developed a list of such exemplars. This activity, however, has made us increasingly aware of an important gap in the field. That is, much of the critical policy literature is concerned with the policy being analyzed rather than the “hows” (i.e., different approaches for analyzing the issue) and “whys” (i.e., reasons for engaging in analysis) of policy analysis. In this session, we bring together a group of critical educational policy scholars to unpack the nuts and bolts of critical policy analysis. Each scholar will share an example of qualitative critical policy research, while making his or her methods and application of theory explicit.
