Session Type: Demonstration/Performance
Physician training and teacher preparation programs bear an uncanny resemblance in purpose, structure and process. Medical education is headed full-speed to adopt competency-based assessment and education (CBA). Likewise, CBA is around the corner for pre-service assessment, accreditation, and for inservice teacher evaluation. However, the wholesale application of CBA rubrics to professional training risks reducing professional practice to checklists of discrete skills rather than assessing the interaction of those skills in a way that reflects the complexity of actual practice. In this session, the presenters will describe and demonstrate the development of a holistic tool to assess (and teach) their respective trainees. The presenters will take participants through coding exercises to demonstrate how their evaluation tools work and to invite feedback.
