Session Type: Symposium
This session shares examples of critical childhood studies research that seek to better understand children’s perspectives on their educational experiences and rights in four national contexts. While a primary objective of this session is to foreground child and youth perspectives on their life experiences engaging in educational settings, we simultaneously draw out our adult-oriented reflections on conducting research with younger people and what it means to authentically collaborate and consult with children. Each paper sheds insight on efforts made to overcome these limitations of child participation in research, as well as share children’s perspectives on a range of issues affecting their lives and education.
