This session explores English Learner students’ access to core content in secondary school from a variety of perspectives ranging from national level data to ethnographic work in one high school. Taken together the papers make a compelling case that English Learner students face significant access barriers to college preparatory and advanced level coursework in school. The papers explore mechanisms behind these access barriers as well as ramifications of these barriers on college going.
