Session Type: Symposium
The unprecedented numbers of English language learners (ELLs) in mainstream classrooms requires teachers, regardless of content or grade level, to be able to teach in linguistically responsive ways, a task that involves simultaneously developing ELL students’ academic, linguistic, and conceptual knowledge and skills. The four papers in this symposium collectively offer a coherent vision for preparing and supporting general education teachers across the professional continuum, one that attends to their particular preparation needs at the preservice, novice, and in-service phases of teaching and takes into account the needs of second language (L2) learners.
