Session Type: Roundtable Session
Bringing together four case studies conducted in diverse United States communities, this session highlights research exploring LGBT and queer experiences across different educational levels from the perspectives of educational psychology, teacher preparation and curriculum and instruction, public policy, and educational leadership and administration. This session connects practical field-based research exploring identity development across lifespans but also deliberately places studies that employ different theoretical perspectives in conversation with one another. By comparing and contrasting studies that employ an LGBT studies perspective with those informed by queer theory we seek to challenge oversimplified categorizations of research as field-specific (e.g. solely utilizing psychological or sociocultural developmental points of view) and illuminate meaningful applications for practice.
