Session Type: Symposium
The four papers in this symposium provide rich illustrations of teaching for social justice, arguing that recognizing students of color as knowledge producers is critical for more democratized notions of knowledge for greater justice. Specifically, the symposium will: 1)Discuss Indigenous Epistemology and critical pedagogy for culturally responsive curriculum;2)Discuss poetic inquiry and critical pedagogy as a means for indigenous students to exercise voice, explore cultural identity, and practice key components of Indigenous Epistemology; 3)Showcase the 5 minute video project that went viral on social media that highlights Native students’ voices and poetry; and 4)Discuss arts based research, visual culture, social media and praxis, for teaching and learning that emphasizes social change, activism, and justice.
