Session Type: Roundtable Session
This symposium will present research on recent advances in the measurement of students’ reading motivation for research and practice. We will begin with a presentation on a review of major measures of reading motivation and an assessment of their usefulness. The second presentation will report on efforts to develop a reading motivation questionnaire for use with early primary school children in Germany and a third paper will discuss results of a study using a similar questionnaire with students in China. In the fourth presentation, the authors will discuss measure invariance in new questionnaires of middle school students’ motivation to read information books. In the final paper, the authors compare four measures of young adolescents’ self-efficacy for reading.
