This joint symposium between Division H (Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Accountability in Schools) and the Directors of Research & Evaluation (DRE) examines how school district practitioners and university faculty and graduate students can benefit from school district-university partnerships. Presenters will discuss: ways of increasing engagement between state educational research associations, higher education, and school districts; the connection between theory and practice in strengthening leadership preparation; field-based experiences to improve external research; and a model for development practice for mentor teachers and mentor candidates. Presenters will share specific strategies that can be adapted to other settings to bridge the gaps in organizational cultures, expectations, priorities, and practical constraints associated with school district university partnerships.
