Session Type: Paper Session
The interrelated theoretical perspectives of social semiotics and multimodality extend the traditional view of writing and invite us to attend to a wider range of modes (i.e., speech, writing, images, gestures, movements, sounds, etc.) to represent and communicate meaning. Although written text has always held a central position in communicating meaning, the multimodal perspective repositions all modes to be equally important. This paper session will explore a variety of topics through multimodal and semiotics lenses.
Captured Images: A Semiotic Analysis of Early 20th-Century American Schools - Heather Caswell, Emporia State University
Refining Mathematical Meanings Through Multimodal Revoicing Interactions: The Case of "Faster" - Virginia J Flood, University of California - Berkeley; Dor Abrahamson, University of California - Berkeley
Fish out of Water: Students, Semiotics, and Reshaping Initial Reflections - Elvira K. Katic, Ramapo College
