31.017 - Chicago and Spoken Word

Abstract

For this event, the community leader of the graduate student council is hosting a group of spoken word artists to perform a series of poems, narratives, and engage in a dialogue about some of the issues that are of concern to them. These students will speak from their hearts about their perspectives, views, and ideas about what it means for them to experience their worlds.

This event is important because it provides a platform for young people in Chicago to share their social, cultural, and political views with society-at-large. There will be an opportunity for students to perform their pieces as well as interaction and dialogue with the audience.
