Session Type: Invited Speaker Session
All teachers are increasingly expected to be using data to inform their practice, however, few have been properly prepared to do so. Skills related to data interpretation and assessment creation are too frequently not taught or modeled in schools of education. Data and assessment literacy should begin pre-service and be part of teacher candidate and faculty training, as well as continuous improvement of programs. Modules on quality assessments and data analysis designed for reviewers of educator preparation programs seeking accreditation will be highlighted. Principles of quality assessments will be shared. The session will also include a discussion of what data literacy should entail and how to integrate these skills into programs to benefit candidate, faculty, and providers.
