29.022 - The Making of an Educational Researcher: Life Experiences From Different National and Disciplinary Backgrounds

Fri, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Sheraton, Floor: Second Level, Michigan A

Session Type: Invited Speaker Session

Abstract

• During 2012-2013, fourteen fellows of the International Academy of Education freely wrote their biographies and reflections on the life trajectories that led them to professionally commit to educational research as a life career. In 2014, those reflections were published as Leaders in educational Research. Intellectual Self portraits by fellows of the International Academy of Education (Sense Publishers). The volume reflects upon the ways in which their careers have been shaped by early family influences, by random events and surprise opportunities, and by nascent intellectual interests and academic mentoring. The authors come from many different countries and from a number of disciplinary or intellectual orientations; from diverse social and cultural backgrounds; and in many cases rose above the travails presented by wars, social unrest, and social injustice to attain an education that launched them eventually into a research career.
