Measuring Cognitive Outcomes Among Undergraduate Students at Southern Baptist Universities: Are There Unique Patterns?

Fri, April 17, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Purple Level, Riverside West

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the levels of growth in cognitive outcomes among students at Southern Baptist universities, as compared to their peers at other CCCU, Catholic, and secular institutions, and to identify the college experiences that contribute to cognitive development. Using the College Senior Survey, descriptive analyses revealed that students enrolled at Baptist colleges and universities had significantly higher levels of academic self-concept and cognitive skills than students enrolled at other types of Christian institutions. In addition, regression analyses showed that the Baptist sample yielded some unique patterns as to which academic experiences contributed to cognitive outcome development among students.
