This proposed communication will use a phenomenological approach (van Manen, 1997) to deepen our understanding of the relation of emotion and self-movement in children’s experience of physical activity / physical education, an essential domain in a holistic education approach. We will also explore the pedagogical implication of this relation. This exploration will begin with a look at how children experience emotion in their “spontaneous” self-movement activities and compare it to similar self-movement activities in the more formal context of school physical education. I will conclude with questions around the notion of “fun” in physical education, of our “pedagogy” in an environment where goals such as health related fitness seem to disintegrate this “ultimate bond” of self-movement and emotion.
