In keeping with AERAs 2015 Annual Meeting Theme, "Toward Justice: Culture, Language, and Heritage in Education Research and Praxis”, panelist will focus on the role their respective White House Initiatives play in shaping public policy for communities of color. A key part of the Initiatives’ mandate is to advise the President and U.S. Secretary of Education on issues related to the educational attainment of their respective target groups, and to seek ways to increase student success through improved policies, practices, and allocation of resources. Several of the White House Initiatives will assess current education policies related to postsecondary completion; develop and issue recommendations for improving retention and persistence in higher education among their constituency groups; and ensure those recommendations are addressed by policymakers and the broader education community.
