52.056 - Telling and Moving Our Stories Into Visceral Spaces of Collective Knowing and Unknowing

Sat, April 18, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Hyatt, Floor: West Tower - Gold Level, New Orleans

Session Type: Workshop

Abstract

This performative presentation by two dance/scholars explores the connections to autobiographical and embodied forms of inquiry to excavate and express the stories within our lives. The lived curriculum of our own narratives through improvisation becomes an invitation to further understanding as we enter into a comingled storytelling process triggered through performance. We integrate arts-based methods of embodied poetic narrative, poetic inquiry, and performative inquiry to share a pedagogical space which connects the personal and universal, public and private, and we collectively utter one another’s stories. We invite playful interactions with participant’s own embodied narratives and invite the participants to open up the places of embodied inquiry, which can form, inform and transform the ways we live, research, teach and create.
