Recent comparative studies have contributed to fascinating, if, as yet, incomplete mapping of the ‘place’ of teacher education, an international geography of teacher education. In this paper two further senses of ‘place’ provide comparative lenses for a timely apriori examination of the professional learning of teachers: place in the sociological sense of hierarchical status, and also in the humanistic geography tradition of place as a cumulative journey – here, a professional learning journey. A critical animation of this comparison is achieved by populating a graph-like correlation model with examples drawn from a range of sources and scales.
