Mon, April 20, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Hyatt, Floor: East Tower - Gold Level, Grand CD

Abstract

This self-study explores reading Anne Frank's The Diary of a Young Girl and Elie Wiesel’s Night in a university Holocaust course in which an explicit goal was engaging in a process of critical inquiry. Using an action research methodology, my findings describe the construction of learning opportunities grounded in critical inquiry, a resulting change in interactions among the students, and how the students reflected on their growth as learners. This work provides insights into including the texts in university Holocaust course and serves as pedagogical reflection for university Holocaust educators across disciplines.
