The presentation draws from a larger, on-going longitudinal study examining early childhood educators’ emotional labor, psychological, physical, and financial well-being as well as teacher sensitivity when interacting with children and their families. For purposes here, the authors draw on both quantitative, survey and observation data, as well as qualitative in-depth interviews to illustrate how aspects of early childhood educators’ emotional labor influence their interactions with children. Implications for future research, as well as practice and policy initiatives will be discussed.
