The proposed research demonstrates the application of a propensity score method to evaluate the potential causal impact of home access to computers on students’ math achievement. To address the inequitable distribution of home computers resulting from differences in students’ socioeconomic and demographic features as well as the disparities in school environments, the study will employ a propensity score method in combination with multilevel modeling. This research will be a demonstration of the complexities that one faces when applying propensity score methods to multilevel survey data. This type of analysis can provide empirical support for policy-makers, philanthropists, and related organizations in deciding whether to help first grade students in the United States get access to home computers.
