In the current era of education, promoting the literacy skills needed for college and career require learning experiences that are relevant, meaningful, and rigorous for all students. This paper offers a description of a literacy curriculum situated in pedagogical third space; a hybrid place for students’ popular culture funds of knowledge to co-mingle with school based, academic literacies. This action research systematically studied and documented students’ and their teacher's decisions, reactions, and reflections to an English Language Arts/popular culture integrated curriculum that was co-constructed. Collected over an eight-month period, data was analyzed using the constant comparative method. The results showed students experienced significant gains in their attainment of literacy skills and transformation of teacher practice.
