Understanding the Relationship Between Inputs and Outputs for Charter School Improvement

Sun, April 19, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Swissotel, Floor: Lucerne Level, Lucerne II

Abstract

This study examines the inputs (both traditional educational resources and out-of-school factors) and the outputs of a multilingual, high achieving, k-5 charter school in south Los Angeles, California. The analysis involves a comparison to the surrounding traditional elementary schools. This allows for a more complete accountability picture for each school. Overall, the study reveals how the output-driven accountability picture changes between the charter and its traditional counterparts when the inputs are compared. In addition, the study explores how the differences in inputs can be traced back to, not only to resources available, but to resources received.
