Fri, April 8, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section A

Abstract

The study examined leadership style of principals’ on school goals attainment in the second tier of education in Bayelsa State of Nigeria. Three research questions were posited. The sample for the study was four hundred and eighty (480) students and ten principals who responded to a three point Likert scale of agreed, disagreed and undecided responses. The responses were collated and analysed using chi-square and the result revealed that democratic leadership style allows teachers, students and non academic staff to air their views in meetings, and decisions reached are collective. Democratic leadership style by implication lend itself to the attainment of school goals as students see themselves as stakeholders and leadership responsibilities are shared by the community of practice.
