Identity-Making of Beginning Teachers in Relation to Administrators

Fri, April 8, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section B

Abstract

This research is situated in understanding beginning teachers’ experiences with a focus on intersections in schools where the lives of beginning teachers meet with the lives of administrators.
Administrators are integral to a beginning teacher’s curriculum making and identity making. Over two years of research conversations, our participant told stories in which her administrator shaped her interactions with children and families in school. The purpose of this research was to inquire into how the beginning teacher’s personal knowledge shaped her practice in relationship with administrators and the way identity making for beginning teachers is shaped with a specific focus on their relationship with administrators.
