Teachers of color have a variety of experiences that legitimize them as producers of knowledge in their relationships with colleagues, in school districts and within the state. In this session, three scholars of color present findings from their research studies that document the experiences of teachers of color across contexts, including in teacher preparation programs and in the profession. Collectively, the paper presentations provide a look into teacher education and practice from the perspectives of teachers of color in the United States and in Kenya. Presenters draw on Black feminist, critical race, and post-colonial theories and utilize qualitative interview and narrative inquiry approaches to understand the impact of teacher education on the identity development of teachers of colors.
