A Framework for Analysis, Interpretation, and Representation Using Arts-Related Research in Occupational Therapy

Sat, April 9, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section A

Abstract

Arts-related research (ARR) employs the arts to explore, understand and represent human action and experience, in context. Whilst the sharing of stories of experience with artifacts such as music, photography and poetry is not new for occupational therapy, using the arts as an aesthetically influenced research practice is less visible within professional discourse. ARR offers a viable and powerful means of examining political, social and moral concerns and conveying emotional complexities through expressive means of (re)presentation. Drawing on our experiences of composing arts-related research and how these have illuminated opportunity to review pedagogy and research practices, we present a means of supporting researchers new to arts-related research to consider the essence of aesthetic sensibilities at the heart of arts-related analysis.
