Professional Development and Female Principals' Job Satisfaction: A Cross-National Study

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Room 206

Abstract

Using the 2013 principal survey data from the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey, this study examined female principals’ participation in professional development at the lower secondary schools across 32 nations and economies, and its association with job satisfaction. The data showed that U.S. principals have the highest average total professional development workload in terms of both coverage and duration. In addition, across the nations, female principals’ participation in PD is positively associated with their job satisfaction. Policy and leadership implications are discussed for the retention and support of female educational leaders.
