Collective Teacher Efficacy of a Faculty Does Not Equal the Sum of the Teams

Sat, April 9, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level One, Room 158 B

Abstract

School leaders continue to search for effective leadership practices to ensure success. A study designed to articulate transformational leadership traits to increase collective teacher efficacy within schools and at grade level teams showed significant findings in terms of perceived efficacy beliefs within schools and provides direction for leaders to employ as they work with social networks. The Nature of Leadership Scale (Leithwood & Jantzi, 1995) and Collective Efficacy Scale (Goddard, 2002) were used for correlations between perceived collective teacher efficacy and perceived leadership behaviors within elementary schools and items were developed to measure the perceptions of efficacy of grade level teams.
