The Times of Controversy: Histories and Futures of Perversion in Education

Mon, April 11, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Convention Center, Floor: Level Two, Exhibit Hall D Section B

Abstract

For the purpose of this paper, the issue of “perversion” is taken up philosophically by looking backwards to an oft-unengaged Philosopher of Education – the Marquis de Sade - no stranger to controversy himself. This look back is to move forward, to think about contemporary pitfalls and promises in thinking about and through sexuality in education. Drawing upon the emerging literatures on queer temporality and Sadean scholarship, how does perversion disrupt the new homonormative politics in education
