This multiple case study examines the experiences of doctoral women of color through a Multiracial Feminist lens with emphasis on ways in which they derived motivation from and as a consequence of racist and sexist academic spaces. The empowering narratives offered by participants not only disrupt dominant narratives and uncover inequitable contexts but also expand our understanding of the assets doctoral women of color employ to achieve academic success. Specifically, this paper is focused on the motivational strategies and sources these women utilize to overcome negative experiences with systems of oppression.
