Abstract

A key element of educating socially responsible citizens is teaching them in a way that they are moved to challenge and work against their own perpetuation of social injustices White and other privileged students’ willingness to remain in a state of uncertainty is posited as integral to this mission, and this paper argues that mathematics as a discipline is a venue uniquely suited to doing developing that disposition.
