This qualitative research study sought to gain perspectives of parents and teachers within a high poverty urban high school. The purpose was to study the perspectives of parents toward principal leadership and effectiveness as related to student achievement. We sought to identify how the parents and teachers viewed leadership and change within their school. Through interview questionnaire with participants and coding the data, emergent themes demonstrated both parents and teachers were interested in accountability, the importance of school climate and culture as well as the positive expectations set by the principal as having beneficial outcomes for the school. Our findings supported the literature, which emanates from critical race theory and social justice.
