Sat, April 9, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Marriott Marquis, Floor: Level Four, Independence Salon C

Abstract

This study is an autoethnography with the researcher serving as the subject that explored the subject’s personal experiences as he intentionally pursued efforts of racial justice within PWCIs. It chronicled the personal and professional struggles/successes experienced by the subject in pursuing these efforts along with the institutional impact. This autoethnographic data was analyzed utilizing a critical race consisting of Derrick Bell’s interest convergence theory and W.E.B. Dubois’s double consciousness. This study is intended to be the first of a series of studies with the next study consisting of interviews with those closely affiliated with the subject and advocates of racial justice working in these same PWCIs to gain further insight.
