This research investigates the relationship between teachers’ perception of authentic leadership and leader-member exchange (LMX) in Taiwan. This study also examines how authentic leadership and LMX influences teachers’ work attitudes. A total sample of 1,007 elementary and secondary school teachers were surveyed. The results indicate that teachers’ perceptions of authentic leadership is positively and significantly related with their work attitudes. Additionally, the relationship between authentic leadership and work attitudes is mediated by LMX. This study provides empirical evidence to support the theoretical argument that authentic leadership fosters followers’ work attitudes through high quality relationships, which is based on positive social exchange.
